Transhipment & Transit CargoExclusive · GCC Re-Routing

An exclusive Pivot service: when a port is congested, a call is omitted or a service is suspended, we re-route your cargo through an uncongested GCC gateway and bring it the rest of the way by feeder or by road under customs transit — managed end to end, on one file.

How We Handle It

01
ASSESS

Position Assessment

We check where the cargo actually is — berth, yard, or still at sea — the carrier schedule, and how much of the delay is recoverable before anything is re-booked.

02
PLANNING

Gateway & Route Selection

We model the realistic options — Jebel Ali, Khalifa, Hamad, Sohar, Salalah, King Abdullah Port or Dammam — against berth availability, feeder frequency and the road leg, then quote time and cost for each.

03
DOCS

Change of Destination

Where the cargo is already on the water, we lodge the COD with the line, amend or switch the bill of lading, and confirm the receiving terminal will accept the discharge.

04
CUSTOMS

Transit Declaration

The transit regime is opened at the gateway with the correct bond or guarantee, and the Saudi import declaration is prepared on Fasah in parallel so nothing waits on paperwork.

05
TRANSIT

Onward Leg

Feeder booking or cross-border trucking is confirmed before discharge, so the box leaves the gateway rather than accruing storage on arrival.

06
DELIVERY

Clearance & Delivery

Saudi import clearance, transit discharge at the border, and final delivery to the consignee — with the transit regime formally closed so no penalty follows the shipment.

The GCC Gateways We Route Through

Choosing the gateway is not about which port is cheapest. It is about which combination of carrier schedule, berth availability, customs regime and road leg puts the cargo in front of your consignee first — and that answer changes month to month.

Cargo discharged at a Gulf gateway typically reaches Riyadh in two to four days by road once customs transit is in place.

Customs Transit

The Paperwork That Decides Your Transit Time

The sea leg is the part everyone watches; the part that goes wrong is the paperwork at the interchange. We open and close the transit regime correctly, keep the manifest and bill of lading consistent with the goods, and lodge the Saudi declaration on Fasah before the truck reaches the border.

  1. 1

    Transit opened

Declaration and bond lodged at the gateway, tied to the exact cargo and route.

  2. 2

    Documents aligned

Manifest, bill of lading, invoice and packing list reconciled before the box moves.

  3. 3

    Origin protected

Non-manipulation evidence kept intact so preferential duty treatment survives the re-route.

  4. 4

    Transit closed

Regime formally discharged on arrival — an open transit is a fine and a blocked future shipment.

Common Questions

Transhipment moves your cargo via an intermediate port instead of waiting for a direct call. Use it when your service has been suspended or is quoting a window you cannot plan around, when the cargo has a fixed deadline, or when demurrage and storage at the congested port will exceed the cost of an extra handling.

A sea–sea relay typically adds three to seven days against a direct call, depending on feeder frequency. A sea–road move through a Gulf gateway into the Kingdom usually adds two to four days after discharge. Both are planned days — the point is to replace an unknown wait with a known one.

Often yes. It needs a change-of-destination request to the line, a bill of lading amendment and the receiving terminal to accept the discharge — and it depends how far the vessel has travelled. The earlier we are told, the more options exist.

Handled properly, no. Goods keep their origin, but preferential treatment depends on documentary continuity through the transhipment — non-manipulation evidence, correct transit declarations and an unbroken paper trail. Handled carelessly it can cost you a preferential rate at clearance.

Yes. The ocean leg, the gateway handling, the transit declaration, the cross-border trucking and the Saudi import clearance are managed on one file, with one point of contact and one invoice. We are a ZATCA-registered customs broker, so clearance is not subcontracted away from you.

Yes. For low-value, genuinely non-urgent cargo an extra handling plus a road leg can cost more than waiting. It is also the wrong call for cargo fragile enough that every extra lift is a risk. We tell you which case you are in before you commit.
